The Place
Taj, an Indian fushion restaurant and lounge located at 48 west
21st street, opened to the public in April 2003. long time friends,
Lesly Zamor, a top floral designer and founder of Bloom Flowers
and Lesly Bemnard, a downtown restauranteur (owner of Clementine,
NYC and former partner in Pravda) created Taj by collaborating
their talents in design, cuisine and nightlife.
Taj will incorporate intimate dining. Cocktails and lounging
within a modern décor that has been designed with accents
of India. Bernard selected Chef consultant Jonathan Linderauer
who has worked along side internationally renowned chef Jean
Gorges Vongerichten and at Aureole to create a modern, Indian
fusion cuisine. Taj seats 100 for dinner, holds up to 299 for

The Design
Zamors vision for Taj, previously the
event space Bloom Ballroom, was a clean contemporary space accented
by traditional Indian culture. Zamor designed and decorated
the interior with fine details such as imported, carved teak
doorways, sandstone statues, bronze and crystal chandeliers,
a mahogany bar and classic fabrics featuring patterns from India.
The seating arrangements range from reclining lounge beds with
pillows to intimate dining within U-shape banquettes under unique
6 foot trumpet-like silk lamps to a private mezzanine with couches
and ottomans.
