If you like a little theme park mixed in
with your movies, you’ll love Universal Studios. The sprawling
420 acres that comprises the Universal lot provides seemingly endless
entertainment possibilities, divided into three major areas: a studio
tour, a theme park, and a shopper’s and diner’s paradise
known as Universal Citywalk.
Its one-hour tram ride takes you inside the heart of the studio:
the backlot. You’ll pass the dressing rooms of some of the
biggest stars in the history of Hollywood, the various offices where
deals are made and movies are planned, and the sound stages of films
like Jurassic Park, The Scorpion King, Shrek, and The Mummy. Be
prepared for encounters with several “disasters” along
the way, like a New York subway accident and an impromptu visit
by the shark from Jaws.
Because the attractions in the theme park are designed around specific
movies, visitors enjoy a completely different experience than they
would at a regular amusement park. At the technologically sophisticated
“Jurassic Park,” you’ll come face-to-face with
dinosaurs and other prehistoric monsters. In “Terminator 2:
3D,” you’ll be caught in the middle of a 3-D cyber-adventure.
You’ll race across galaxies while helping “E.T.”
save his planet, and on a trip “Back to the Future”
you’ll lose your equilibrium while riding through space in
a time machine.
