It began as part of a bad fight card at
the Hollywood Legion. Every Friday, Jack Benny, George Burns, and
George Jessel had a ritual: Dinner at the Brown Derby, and then
the fights just a block and a half away.
The original members? George Jessel, Abbot; Bing Crosby, Dean; Robert
Taylor, Prior; Bob Hope, Proctor; and Jimmy Durante, Herald. Berle
soon relocated to California and saw to it that the Friars Club
of California became the show biz club.
No matter who's at the helm, be it the late Steve Allen or our current
Abbot, Larry King, the Friars Club of California remains the paramount
arena for show people to meet, network, or simply relax with a cocktail
and a smoke.
The signature of the Friars Club however is our wonderful entertainment
and exclusive performances. Whether its a simple cigar night with
Joe Mantegna & Dennis Farina, comedy nights with Buddy Hackett
and Red Buttons or our World Famous Roasts, Toasts, and Salutes
to our favorite people like Aaron Spelling, Arnold Schwarzenegger,
Magic Johnson and Jillian Barberie.
