For more than three decades, Mirabelle has flourished in the heart of the Sunset Strip. Not many restaurants in Los Angeles can say they've been in business for over 31 years, at the same location and the same ownership.

But Mirabelle Restaurant and Bar can. Its look has changed – but not its comfortable atmosphere, good service or, most important, its fine food. These days, it’s Chef Joseph Gillard who presides over the kitchen.

Our first order of business – searing a pork chop that seems large enough to feed an entire family! Searing both sides well before it goes into the oven makes sure all the juices will be sealed inside the meat. On the final plate, it will be served with an array of fresh vegetables to lighten it up just a bit.

Meanwhile, Chef Gillard gets to work on sweet prawns that are roughly the size of Vermont. They’re flown in fresh daily. The secret is to grill these quickly – just until they turn a lovely coral color all the way across. The prawns will be served on a salad of watercress, grilled sweet corn and red onion.

And, of course, every meal needs a great ending. In this case, it’s
maple ice cream that sits on top of a tower made of brown sugar, butter pecan and raisins together with baked apples and now mint creme Anglaise. Better get it before it melts
