DJ RHENALT INTERVIEW - PAGE 3

15. During the 60’s, the music was far different than it is today. There seemed to be more melodies and less back beat techno music. The lyrics reflected that generation’s fight for causes. Do you ever see music reverting to that state again and if not, why? That music still exist. You have rock groups like Rage Against the Machine< rappers like Krs1 doing that kind of music. Also house music promotes positivity in the lyrics. (The tracks that do have vocals). Once again the big corporations control what the mainstream listen to. Most people need someone to tell them what's hot are not. Very few of us find out what other styles are out there besides what's being played on the radio. The only way it can come back is if the artist control what gets on the radio not business men that's just looking for the bottom line!

16. I remember hearing a DJ on the radio describing Beatle George Harrison’s take on the music of this generation. He said, “When I listened to the top 40, by the time I got to number one, I wanted to kill somebody!” Apparently, his complaint was the back beat was similar and there was a real lack of variety in the songs. Why is it that one generation’s feeling for the music of the next generation lacks tolerance? Back than it was about the art form. Like I said you still have those great artist making that music. Back than you had more artist putting out other artist. It wasn't about the bottom line. It wasn't about following the next man. If you want good music, you have to start to think for your self. FREE YOUR MIND

17. How do the political socio-economic influences affect the direction of music? Would you say that the high tech industry is responsible for the lack of feeling in music today or do they just express that feeling through different patterns and beats – more repetition etc.? I don't see politics affecting music in the mainstream. The music on the radio isn't about up lifting people. If you have music that speak on positivity and awareness, it teaches people to think for them selves. If you promote "fluff" it's easier to control what's hot and what's not!

18. Given the hours you have listened to music and how you see people responding to it, what advice would you give to new musicians today as to what is effective and non-effective music (e.g. getting an audience to move , buy) or does that just depend on the generation, their influences and what shapes them? First you have to find what music you like. Which one moves your soul. Once you find that, you can find what you wan to with it. It's not about doing it for the bottom line. Not everyone can live a like a a musician. Music is very special, you have to be true to it.

19. How does location affect what music you play as a DJ? For example, with respect to the push for globalization, how will this affect the music you play locally? Are certain songs more popular that you play in New York as opposed to what a DJ would play in Miami? It depends on what type of music your playing Every part of the world and country have their own underground and mainstream. It's different everywhere you go. It all about educating your audience. You have to show you personality also in what you do as an artist

Just as they are standardizing education, do you think music will ever have a standard forced upon it or is music as individual as each generation’s consciousness? Music is maybe the most important thing in the world. Music is suppose to reflect the collective thoughts of each generation. We as artist need to put out music only for a positive outcome. I don't see that happening at the moment. The youth needs to find their own voice.
